Information Management is a complex, multidisciplinary task. There are a number of valuable industry associations, publishers and other types of organizations that provide valuable information, insight and connections to others in the Information Management community.

Industry Associations

  • American Bar Association
    The ABA, with more than 400,000 members, provides law school accreditation, continuing legal education, information about the law, programs to assist lawyers and judges in their work, and initiatives to improve the legal system for the public.

    The Section of Science and Technology Law has developed several groundbreaking publications dealing with the law and information technology. In particular, look at the Information Security Committee's Digital Signature Guidelines and PKI Assessment Guidelines.


  • ARMA International
    ARMA International is a not-for-profit association serving more than 10,000 Information Management professionals in the United States, Canada, and over 30 other nations. ARMA International members include records and information managers, archivists, corporate librarians, imaging specialists, legal professionals, knowledge managers, consultants, and educators.
    ARMA has local chapters around the world and closely tracks legislative developments affecting Information Management.


  • Federal Bar Association
    The FBA is the organization for private and government lawyers and judges involved in federal practice. The FBA gives its 15,000 members a chance to meet at regional and national conferences, become active in informed discussion of substantive law issues, assume leadership positions at the local and national level, and network with other professionals in the field of federal law.



  • AIIM International
    AIIM International is the global authority on enterprise content management (ECM), the technologies, tools, and methods used to capture, manage, store, preserve, and deliver information to support business processes. AIIM promotes the understanding, adoption, and use of ECM technologies through education, networking, marketing, research, standards, and advocacy programs.


  • ISO
    ISO is a network of national standards institutes from 140 countries working in partnership with international organizations, governments, industry, business and consumer representatives. ISO is a source of more than 13,0000 International Standards, including several relating to Information Management, such as ISO 15489, the new international standard on Records Management.

    In particular, the work of Technical Committee ISO/TC 171, Document Imaging Applications, continues to develop standards relevant to Information Management.


  • Parenteral Drug Association
    The PDA is an international association for pharmaceutical science and technology, located in Bethesda, Maryland, USA. PDA is an 8,500+ member international nonprofit professional association which annually sponsors many meetings and educational courses, and publishes the bimonthly PDA Journal of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology and the monthly PDA Letter.

    The PDA has several committees that address Information Management issues in the pharmaceutical industry and provides commentary on regulatory developments.


  • Business Forms Management Association
    BFMA International has worked to advance form, e-document, systems and workflow professionals for more than 40 years through education, training and peer networking services.

Publications

  • Transform Magazine
    Transform Magazine is targeted at business and IT managers implementing content and collaboration products and strategies. It addresses the full lifecycle of corporate content, from capture to management to delivery and storage.

  • e-doc Magazine
    e-doc, published by AIIM, features stories on a wide variety of Enterprise Content Management topics in finance/insurance, engineering/manufacturing, government, and healthcare. Additionally, one industry is covered in depth in each issue through case studies, opinion pieces, and analytical articles. e-doc also contains a number of ongoing columns that discuss topics relevant to readers in this ever-changing industry.

  • KMWorld Magazine
    KMWorld serves the knowledge management systems community with current news, case studies and other editorial content.

  • Computer Forensics, Inc.
